We were able to go on a wonderful extended trip back East this past few weeks, we are so blessed to have family and friends who live in such great places and let us stay with them. Ryan has been planning to attend the 8-28 Rally in Washington D.C. for weeks, and then everything just fell into place!
We started out Friday, and had a longer layover in SLC. So we decided to take the free shuttle provided by the Missionaries to Temple Square. It was so fun to play tourist, you never appreciate your own backyard! The boys loved walking around Temple Square and Parker loved the interactive learning activities in the Visitor Center. Jordan and I saw a little Quail family, they had at least 10 little chicks! The little ones were so tiny, smaller than Jordan's little fist! So cute ! We had a wonderful lunch at The Garden at the top of the Joseph Smith Building (the shuttle gave us a coupon!) and we were able to watch all the construction going on next door and to enjoy the beautiful view of the Temple and Salt Lake Valley. Then we headed back to the airport for our flight. Up to this point everything went very smoothly... I won't go into detail about the Washington D.C. flight ( you must have Top Secret clearance from Delta to know the whole story ), but we were not able to go to D.C. that night...ARRGH! So after great deliberation we got on a flight to St. Paul, and spent the night there (at least we were a little closer to D.C.) We had a great hotel and even drove past the Mall of America, although we did not get to shop this trip. I was not very prudent, and have gotten lazy with the ease we have had in traveling lately...so I didn't have overnight clothes or even a Pull-Up! We arrived to late for any stores to be open, so we were out of luck! What was I thinking!!!

Saturday morning, we got up VERY early and hopped on a flight to D.C. We even got there in time for Ryan to attend some of the Rally!
Our sweet friends the Daniels let us stay with them, even though they were moving THAT WEEKEND!!! Parker, Jordan made instant friends with Reese and the fun began!
We spent the rest of the day at Mt. Vernon, George Washington's beautiful estate. We had so much fun exploring the new museum and LOVED the new 4-D movie on his battles in the Revolutionary War. It snowed on us and the whole stadium shook when the cannons were fired! A-MAZE-ING!!! We thought we would just walk around the grounds, that the boys might not be into a tour of the house... we were wrong. Parker was very interested in everything, you could see him soaking up all the information. On the tour, Jordan saw a sign that read "Do Not Cross"...he knew it must be important and he read the sign to us as "This is George Washington's House...In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen" He too must have felt the reverence our Founding Father and his sacrifices deserve. We spent a lot of time on the back lawn, letting the kids run up and roll down the beautiful lawn hill as we overlooked the Potomac River. I think the favorite was these wooden rifle the boys found, they spent a lot of time playing George Washington and Soldiers !

Looks like such a fun trip so far...except the secret clearance from Delta. haha.
